Psoriasis and motherhood

I have suffered with a version of psoriasis since I was 8. It has always stayed on my scalp and grows into my brows during big breakouts. I have shared a few times now how I deal with it, what helps and what doesnt. Huge struggle in last 3 years has been my two pregnancies as those really added to my breakouts.

Three big factors for me in regards to breakout are : sleep, stress and diet. Each pregnancy lead to different sleep patterns, stress and also big changes in my diet. During my second round I actually managed to get my skin into an incredible condition. My first born has started to sleep a lot better and would only wake up one or two times a night. This meant, that I was able to get plenty of sleep. After the initial big change of moving to a different country, I started to have less and less stress. I was not worried about anything that had to do with the pregnancy or my kid. Everything was just really settling down and I was able to take a deep breath and you could really see that in my skin. Also, as far as the diet I have been almost completely meat free with the exception of white meat which is something that really really helps those who suffer with psoriasis and especially my case. I have been drinking a lot of fluids. The summer has been approaching and I was always thirsty so that was great. I also found a combination of two face products that helped to really moisturise my skin. It has seriously been the best I’ve seen in many many years.

And then the baby came. Now don’t get me wrong I love my little kiddo endlessly but the change in my sleep breastfeeding and new stress factors are really showing on my skin. Also funnily enough everything in my diet that is needed for breastfeeding is actually bad for my skin and psoriasis. I had to get back to eating meat, lots of daily products, et cetera. Literally everything I have been avoiding in order to make my skin look better and healthier.

As far as skin product the combination that has worked in a few months during my pregnancy now don’t seem to be enough . I have been on a hunt for a new combination or a miracle that would calm my skin down and prevent such breakouts.

So this is my current state . Dry skin patches in my hairline and my eyebrows. I am currently starting a combination feeding for my son and will be slowly changing to formula feedings. This has nothing to do with my skin. The boy just needs more nutrition than my milk seems to be giving him. But silver lining of this slight complication should be that my skin will potentially start clearing out once I change my diet yet again without having to focus on producing strong milk. I might be able to get a lot more sleep and I will be stressing a lot less.

Guess I’ll deport back in a few months. In the meantime, this is what I’ll be using on my skin and praying for a miracle .

Till next time

Deni
